Reception Curriculum Information Spring Term 2012
Dear Parent,
Happy New Year to you all.
This term’s topics are ‘People Who Help Us’ and ‘Traditional
Tales’. We will spend
time investigating these themes across the areas of learning through
play, hands on activities, observation, drawing, music and dance. We
are also focusing on the ‘Year of Communication’ as a school, and
Reception’s target this term is: ‘To explicitly teach the language
of social etiquette’ (Please, thank you, excuse me, sorry etc.)
Please could you help us by reinforcing this at home. We would like to invite people to visit our class
to talk about their jobs. If you know anyone working in the
following professions – fire, police, nursing, dentistry, lollipop
person etc - who would be
willing to come and talk to the children, please let us know.
We are also going to walk to the local allotments at the end
of each half term, and if you are CRB checked, we would appreciate
any time you can offer to accompany the children. The children will participate in regular Literacy
sessions. These will
continue to be mainly of a practical nature but will also involve
some more structured activities including phonic work, writing
skills and group reading.
This term we are focusing on writing first names in a
continuous cursive style; our aim is for all children to be able to
do this independently by Easter. Please could you sit with and help
your child with this, ensuring that all letters are formed
correctly. Numeracy sessions will also be practical and
focus on number sequencing, counting (0-15 and beyond), shape, time
(days, months and seasons) and comparative measures. Parents who are CRB checked are welcome to come
and help in school on a rota basis.
Please see your registration group teacher to arrange a
suitable time. Although we have an extensive range of classroom
resources we would very much appreciate any donations such as number
jigsaw puzzles, dolls and dressing-up clothes for role-play. Please could you ensure that your child has a
clearly named PE kit in school – black shorts, white T shirt and a
pair of plimsolls. Also could
ALL school uniform and shoes, coats, hats, gloves and scarves
be clearly named in a permanent pen or sewn in label. Timetable reminders:
P.E. days - Monday & Friday
(NB. Please, no jewellery should be worn to
school as this can compromise safety during P.E. lessons and
play-times.)
Reading Books are changed on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays.
Library day - Thursday Class / Parent Representatives – Mrs Nativ, Mrs
Watson, Mrs Cloote and Mrs Viglione
As always, the Reception teachers are available
