Nursery – Spring Term 2012

Curriculum Information

Welcome back

We hope you all had an enjoyable festive season and thank you again for your generosity and kindness. The children have returned to Nursery full of stories and raring to go! We look forward to another busy term where we will be continuing to provide a variety of learning experiences, taking into account our topics and the children’s interests.

People Who help Us

The topic for the first half term will be ‘People who help us’. We are still looking for volunteers to visit Nursery and talk about their jobs on a very simple level. We have already been lucky enough to have a visit from Mr. Richards, our caretaker, and are now trying extra hard to keep our classroom clean and tidy. The children enjoy ALL visitors so please don’t be shy!

Some of our activities in class will include: a visit from Mr. Lang the postman, posting letters, wrapping parcels, acting out trips to the doctors, a visit from the Fire Service, making emergency vehicles and discussing the work of the Police to keep us safe.

Spring and Growth

The topic for the second half term will be ‘Spring and Growth’. We will be hoping to visit the allotments as well looking at plants, trees and animals around the school. Activities will include: planting and caring for plants, learning about animal habitats and how animals and plants grow and change.

Supporting your child

This term there will be a focus on learning letter sounds and letter formation. We will be doing this at a very simple level and will discuss this in more detail with you at our parent meetings. Please continue to read with your child as much as possible and sing familiar songs and rhymes.

Parental Help

We always welcome parental support. If you have been CRB checked and would like to come in, even just for one session, then please leave a note in your child’s pink book.
